A licensed Alabama general contractor based in Headland, providing commercial construction, high-end residential construction, design-build, roofing, concrete, and professional project management.

[Who We Are]

A general contractor built for coordination.

Voak Construction is a licensed Alabama general contractor based in Headland, Alabama. We provide commercial construction, high-end residential construction, design-build, renovations, roofing, concrete, metal-building construction, and professional project management.

Our work is built around careful planning, accurate communication, dependable trade coordination, and long-term accountability. We understand that a successful project requires more than completing physical construction. It requires coordinating the owner's priorities, the architect's design, the engineer's requirements, the subcontractors' work, the procurement schedule, the inspection process, and the project budget.

On residential projects, we bring commercial-level organization to the custom-building process. We work with an architect to develop thoughtful, highly personalized homes and renovations while giving the client practical information about cost, schedule, materials, and construction.

On commercial projects, we provide the structure, documentation, field coordination, and project management required to move complex work from preconstruction through closeout.

[ Jobsite & Roadside Safety]

Seen at night. Safe on the roadside.

Keeping our roadside crews safe is a non-negotiable. Our teams work in high-visibility apparel, use reflective PPE, and light our equipment and work zones so every crew member is clearly seen — day or night — by passing traffic.

From concrete pours and roofing tear-offs to sitework along active roads, we plan traffic control, staging, and lighting before the work starts. Safety-conscious jobsites protect our people, our clients, and the public around us.

[ Night Visibility Program]

How we keep crews seen after dark.

Roadside and after-hours work carries real risk. Our night visibility program stacks three layers of protection — what the crew wears, how the site is lit, and how traffic is warned — so every worker is clearly seen from the moment headlights hit the zone.

Layer 01

Reflective Gear

ANSI Class 2 & Class 3 hi-vis vests and jackets, retroreflective striping on sleeves and legs, hard-hat reflective bands, and hi-vis rain gear for wet-weather work. Issued to every crew member — no exceptions after sunset.

  • ANSI Class 2 / 3 apparel
  • 360° retroreflective striping
  • Hard-hat reflective bands
Layer 02

Site Lighting

Portable LED light towers, magnetic strobes on parked equipment, and amber beacons on trucks and skid steers. Work zones are lit to task-level brightness so operators can see hazards and drivers can see people, not just barrels.

  • LED light towers on-site
  • Amber strobes on equipment
  • Task-lit work zones
Layer 03

Signage & Traffic Control

MUTCD-compliant advance warning signs, reflective cones and barricades, arrow boards for lane shifts, and flaggers when the work plan calls for it. Every roadside job gets a written traffic control plan before mobilization.

  • MUTCD advance warning signs
  • Reflective cones & arrow boards
  • Written traffic control plan

Every crew leader carries the same one-page checklist before a night pour, roadside tear-off, or after-hours mobilization.

[ Safety FAQ]

Roadside & jobsite safety questions.

Answers to the questions owners, tenants, and neighboring businesses ask most when we mobilize on a site — plus how you can help us keep the work zone safe.

Have a safety concern on an active site?

Call our project manager Garrett Smith directly at 334-714-0203 — 24/7.

What safety standards do your crews follow on roadside work?
Every roadside job is planned to MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) standards with a written traffic control plan before mobilization. Crews wear ANSI Class 2 or Class 3 high-visibility apparel, and equipment carries amber strobes and reflective markings. OSHA 10/30 training is standard for our field leaders.
How do you keep workers visible at night or in low light?
We layer visibility: retroreflective PPE on every crew member, LED light towers lighting the work zone to task-level brightness, and amber beacons on trucks, skid steers, and light plants. A pre-shift walk-through confirms every worker is lit and every vehicle approach is signed before work starts.
Do you handle traffic control, lane closures, and flagging?
Yes. For projects along active roads we coordinate advance warning signs, arrow boards, cones, barricades, and certified flaggers when the plan requires them. For work in DOT right-of-way we pull the required permits and coordinate with the local authority before we mobilize.
What insurance and licensing does Voak Construction carry?
Voak Construction is licensed in Alabama (AL #54527) and carries general liability, auto, and workers' compensation coverage sized to commercial project requirements. Certificates of insurance naming your entity as an additional insured are available on request — just tell us what limits and language your contract requires.
How can a property owner or tenant prepare before we mobilize?
Confirm site access hours, gate codes, and any tenant work-hour restrictions. Identify a single point of contact for us to reach during work. Mark private utilities that public locate services won't catch (irrigation, private electric, low-voltage lines). Let us know about any adjacent operations — occupied units, pedestrian traffic, deliveries — so we can plan barriers and signage accordingly.
What should neighboring businesses or the public do around the work zone?
Obey the posted signs and cones — they mark the safe walking and driving paths around active work. Never enter a work zone to speak with a crew member; wait at the edge and a supervisor will come to you. If you see an unsafe condition, call the emergency contact above and we will address it immediately.
Do you provide site-specific safety plans, JHAs, or pre-construction safety meetings?
Yes. For commercial and institutional projects we deliver a project-specific safety plan, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for high-risk tasks, and a pre-construction safety meeting with the owner, architect, and any facility stakeholders. On healthcare projects we also coordinate ICRA infection-control barriers and interim life safety measures.
